Our Fourth of July
The day before Independence Day we stopped at a yard sale and found two treasures in this family's box of old costumes for sale. Best dollar I ever spent! I wish I had a better picture of this. This is Johnathan up on our porch while I'm more than a full floor below him looking up thanks to our lovely slopped WV yard. It's a tricorn hat and a buck skin vest with trim. He would hardly take it off. Jeremy launched into a history lesson explaining that patriots wore tricorn hats. So now he thinks he has a hat just like George Washington's. Then he pretends to go hunting to kill the deer to make his own buckskin clothing. He's insisted on wearing just about everywhere, lamenting to remove it even to eat his meals and go potty. I let him wear it out one day when we visited the doctor (yes, JT has another ear infection, JP pink eye again!) and to Walmart. Everyone either called him a pirate (and a few, a mountaineer)! Come on people! He's a PATRIOT! I suppose there are more pirates in our culture these days than patriots. Sad, but true! We love being patriotic as a family. We love history, especially of this great country! We had a wonderful memorable Independence Day! Hope you did too!

We bought some pop-its, some sparklers and a few other fun fireworks to do in the driveway the night before.
Sparklers, or as JP kept calling them "Sprinklers"

He really loved these fire works.

The day of we went to Hurricane to their 4th of July celebration. It was raining, but we still had a blast. They had a huge asortment of inflatables. Johnathan loved this water slide inflatable.

Waiting for his next turn.

Cowboy magician was a big hit! We went to two of his shows! JP is in the Veggie Tales shirt with red shorts on hay bale.

After enjoying the Hurricane event we grabbed some dinner and went downtown Charleston for the free West Viriginia Symphony Orchestra patriotic concert followed by fireworks over the river. This was the first time that we allowed Johnathan to stay up late to see real fireworks in the sky (Josh too of course). They did not dissappoint! It was a great display! I'll probably never forget holding Johnathan on my hip while he pressed his face up against mine pointing to the sky, describing each firework that lit up the sky. It was magical, really. By the end of the evening we were drenched but it was so worth it!!!!
